In an emergency

My pipes have burst, what steps should I take?

A burst pipe can be a serious problem, and can compromise your home and your possessions. The first thing to do is stop the water flow. To do this, switch off the main stop tap, which is usually located under the kitchen sink, or in the area where the main service pipe connects to your home. Next you should find the break, to prevent as much damage as you can. Once you have found it, you may be able to patch it up a bit as a temporary solution; a bucket may also buy you some time. You really need to call a  plumber in at this point, to find a permanent solution.
